A Long Day...
18/6/2014
Journey's are ideal when started in time and destinations arrived at on schedule. Some would argue that the beauty lies in the journey itself , in a departure from routine. We'll leave it to individuals to decide.
What began as a slight delay for taking pictures soon turned into a gloriously chaotic day, and ended in 23 bus bound souls rattling away for over 20 hours! Talk about beautiful journeys! And how far was Manali from Delhi? Only some 500 odd kilometres.
Contributing to local economies by buying souvenirs and consuming local foodstuffs is an aware way to travel. And how we all did that! Right from buying caps and stoles at East Bank, Manali to hot noodles and tea along the way, fresh fruit anywhere it was available, lunch, tea, dinner ... phew... no wonder we were behind schedule a good 6 hours.
The road may have had something to do with it too, winding roads take a lot of time without covering much distance, especially if they are covered with SUVs returning from DL, HR or PB...!
The temperature as we came down from the hills onto the plains was as varied as it could get... Surrounded by snow capped mountains at breakfast and sweating it out at lunchtime, a perfect rainy day worth chai and pakoras in the evening and a stiff summer evening that you could cut through with a knife for dinner.
I am still unclear why that simple journey took forever but it did. Forever. We arrived at CSE at 5 in the morning. Never have I been on a journey so extended... but at long last we arrived.
