PARTICIPANTS PROFILES
Abhishek Ratnam
He has a B.Tech. degree in Chemical Engineering from NITK Surathkal. Amongst other things, his hobbies include gardening and teaching. He has been an active member of his college's NSS society, and wishes to work towards the growth of society.
Amirtharaj Stephen: Amirtharaj is a documentary photographer, currently documenting the ongoing anti nuclear protests in Koodankulam which is close to his native village. His photographs on the Koodankulam protests have appeared in various national and international magazines. He has worked in the print media for over four years, and has worked as a Feature Photographer for a lifestyle magazine in Bangalore from 2008 (Aug)- 2011 (March).
Anand Sreekumar
Anand is currently pursuing the first of a five year integrated Masters programme in humanities and social sciences at IIT Madras. He is also involved in editing text transcriptions of the National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning, funded by Ministry of HRD, Government of India. He cites the interdisciplinary aspect of Agenda for Survival as being significant in drawing his attention and passion towards it.
B. Harikrishnan
He graduated from Anna University, Chennai, in 2009, having studied Mechanical Engineering. He has worked on a project pertaining to reduction of emissions in two stroke engines and also on a solar powered fire fighting robot. At the moment he is preparing for the civil services examinations.
Joseph Tharayil Varghese
Joseph holds two Masters degrees in Business Administration from University of Pune. He has also pursued a PG Diploma in Environmental Sustainability from the University of Edinburgh. For his last job he was self employed for two years (2011-2013), working as a small scale agriculturist, networking with NGOs, experts and environmental activist groups in India. He is currently a Ph.D aspirant and an Atlas Fellowship finalist.
Jessica Luis
Living in Thane, Maharashtra, Jessica is a freelance writer with the Daily News and Analysis travel supplement, DNA of Escape. She has participated in social awareness campaigns on themes such as the importance of timely first aid and errant taxi drivers. She is fluent in English, Hindi, Marathi, and Spanish. Her hobbies are playing music, origami and other craft and travelling. She is interested in wildlife and is also a football fan.
Jyothisha VJ
Jyothisha is simultaneously pursuing a post graduate degree in Political Science from Jawaharlal University, New Delhi, and a post graduate diploma in Urban Environment Management and Law from WWF the National Law University, New Delhi. She is originally from Kerala.
Netra Bhandari
Netra is interested in travelling, reading, gardening, listening to music and keeping pets. She is an active volunteer of NSS club at Hansraj College, Delhi University, where she is pursuing a Bachelors degree in Life Sciences.
Pooja Kulkarni
Currently Pooja is studying Environmental Science at the undergraduate level at Fergusson College, Pune. She is interested in waste management and recycling and sees herself as an entrepreneur in eco-friendly products. Previously she has done an internship on the project Green Power Now at Zhejiang University, Hangzhou, China. She has also taken part in extracurricular activities related to Warli and canvas painting, and mural making.
Sagar Jounkani
He is currently studying Electronics and Communication Engineering from VIT University, Vellore, Tamil Nadu. He hopes to employ his prowess in electronics to develop solutions for problems in the fields of environment, education, irrigation, health sector, disability aids and public policy implementation. He enjoys playing various sports, reading, studying the economy, writing, and debating.
Saylee Salvi
She has a background in Mass Communication and has been working as an Operations Executive with Climate Miles Private Limited- an environment consultancy firm- since 2011. In the past she has been selected as a delegate to the Eleventh Conference of Parties (COP 11) on the Convention on Biodiversity as an ‘Observer’. She is interested in working towards novel inter-disciplinary solutions to tackle environmental issues.
Altaf Ahmad Sofi
From Jammu and Kashmir, Altaf has previously worked on a research project titled Impact of Mass Media on Awareness about Tuberculosis among Women in Kashmir. He has completed his Masters in Journalism and Mass Communication. Presently he is working with Kashmir Scan News Magazine. He feels he has exceptional communication skills and he enjoys travelling and socialising.
Aristo Mendis
Aristo holds a Bachelors degree in Zoology and Botany. He has worked with an NGO in Ranthambore, Tiger Watch, and is now a Programme Officer at GreenLine, under the Environmental Forum of Don Bosco Developmental Society, Mumbai. He is a wildlife enthusiast.
Evangelin Masih
Evangelin’s areas of interest are wildlife conservation, food security and recycling. She is presently studying at Pune University.
Gargi Barkakati
Gargi is pursuing a Bachelors degree in Law from M.S.Ramaiah College of Law, Bangalore, Karnataka. Her interests include wildlife and environmental law along with corporate and criminal law.
Mukesh Choudhari
Mukesh has a Masters degree in Social Work from Tata Institute of Social Sciences and a PG Diploma in Human Rights. Currently he is working at the Centre for Environment Education (CEE), as a Programme Officer, managing the Global Environment Facility (GEF)/ UNDP Small Grants Programme (SGP) in Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Goa.
Nafeel Ahamed K
Nafeel will be graduating next year from Government College of Technology, Coimbatore, with a Bachelors degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering. His areas of interest are geography and analog and digital communication. He feels he is hard working and believes he is a keen learner.
Nikita Pawar
A student of Environmental Sciences at Pune University, Nikita says she is extremely interested in the different fields related to it, and this is why she wanted to attend Agenda for Survival. She wants to do something productive to improve the present condition of the environment.
Nishant Saxena
As of now, Nishant has completed two of three years of a bachelors degree in Computer Science from Kirori Mal College, Delhi University. He has directed, written and edited a short film on gender- Realising the Gender. His interests are travelling, social work, dancing, reading and writing.
Pravesh Kumar
He has a Masters degree in Environmental Science from Bundelkhand University, Jhansi, and has also just completed another Masters degree in Environmental Engineering, from Gautam Buddha University, Greater Noida. He has published work on climate change in Bundelkhand. His areas of interest are waste water treatment, solid waste management and renewable energy.
Sanjala Hari
She will be graduating next year with a Bachelors degree in Environmental Science from Fergusson College, Pune. She is particularly interested in the issue of water and wants to be able to reach out to people and make them aware of what might happen if water resources are continued to be mistreated. In the future she sees herself as a successful environmental manager of a positive and environmentally goal-oriented organisation.
Zaeen George de Souza
Zaeen has just completed his first year of a Bachelors degree at Symbiosis College of Arts and Commerce, Pune. He hopes to major in Economics (Honours). He feels that Agenda for Survival would increase his understanding of the relationship between resources and profits, between business and sustainability, and that it would help him find answers to questions about how to work towards a highly productive and eco-friendly economy that does not exclude people. Zaeen’s interests are music (drums), trekking, reading, athletics (football and track) and martial arts (Krav Maga).
Shubham Sanjay Bohra
Shubham has a Bachelors degree in Business Administration. He has been involved in activities pertaining to his interests, a few of which are support for the disabled and mentally challenged, agriculture and environment, the securities market, quizzing and cooking. He is currently involved in public policy, administration and governance as a student of Sardar Patel Institute of Public Administration (SPIPA), Gujarat.
